The tourist trail "Cave Laboratory, Old Border, Topcheto cave, Rozhen pylon, Chepelarska river sources" was conceived and implemented by Marin Gospodinov - director of the Rhodope Karst Museum, Chepelare. The trail is financed under the Tourism Development Program of the Municipality of Chepelare for 2024.
The main goal is the development of summer tourism on the territory of Chepelare Municipality and Pamporovo resort.
The path starts from the fork for the old road to the village of Levochevo, it is circular with a total length of about 9 km. Light and pleasant for walks, both on foot and by bike or jeep safari. It passes through several interesting and emblematic places for the Rhodopes.
The first stop is Sbirkovata cave, a beautiful cave with sinter lakes used in the past as an underground laboratory by the cave club in the town of Chepelare. Known for a long time in the 50s, it was a favorite place for excursions for vacationers in the town and Pamporovo resort.
After it, the path goes to the remains of the old border of Bulgaria, as well as to more recent military structures (trenches, burials, border stones, etc.) built in the same places.
Continuing along the marked path, you reach the "Topcheto" cave, famous for the legendary Captain Petko Voivoda. He hides in it the combat equipment of the squad he commands, including his cannon.
Leaving the "Rozhen" area, visitors to the trail will see the popular Rozhen pylon.
Continuing from the left of the building with the round windows along the dirt road, you will reach the sources of the Chepelarska (Chaya) river. From there, after about 20 minutes, the route ends at the starting point.
The marking is red, arrow type. Information boards have been placed at the sites along the route.
