Chepelare. Another Bulgarian resort is ready to host the Snowboard World Cup. We remind you that last week Bansko impressed with its organization and hosting. At the root of the success was a large group from Chepelare, who did everything possible not only to hold the competition at the highest level, not only to please us with their successes, but also to make the information reach the viewers in the most professional way.
The best Bulgarian athletes in the attractive winter sport come from Chepelare. For men, Radoslav Yankov pleased us with a semi-final and fourth place in the parallel slalom, and Dimitar Ganichev finished in 40th position. Among the women, Teodora Pencheva, who is not from Chepelare, but has lived in the beautiful Rhodope town for many years, took 18th place. Forerunners in the competition were the Chepelarians Alexander Georgov, Stanislav Vangelov and Georgi Vangelov. All are from the local Orion Snowboard Club, later renamed Amer Sports. It was established in 1995, and today, thanks to coach Vasil Milchev, our native athletes from the small town reach the world's top.
Thanks to Georgi Nalbantov, a snowboarder from the town of Chepelare and also part of the snowboar club, viewers of Diema sport 3 and Nova sport received a professional commentary. The presence of Chepelarians in the judging team was also serious: Georgi Belenozov, Tsonka Stancheva, Todor Bozukov, Rayko Bozov, as well as in the team preparing the slope for the competition: Kostadin Belenozov, Anastas Chakarov, Todor Chakarov, Antoaneta Karaivanova, Miglena Karaivanova. The ski factory in the Rhodope town "Amer Sports" - which is in the TOP 3 in Europe, gave one pair of skis to the team from Chepelare and Smolyan. Among the official guests of the World Cup were Boran Hadzhiev - mayor of Chepelare, as well as Krastyo Vangelov - former executive director of the ski factory in Chepelare.
All this proves to us that the municipality of Chepelare and Pamporovo are ready to host the Snowboard World Cup in 2024, as an excellent place for the sports event is the resort's emblematic track "The Wall". In the year Chepelare was awarded the title of European City of Sports. We remind you that the snowboarder Petar Gergovski (17 years old), who is also from a snowboard club in Chepelare, won a silver medal at the European Youth Winter Festival in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Italy) in the parallel giant slalom (21-28.01.2023) . Yordanka Andonova also performed in the competition. At the same time, the Olympic hope in alpine skiing - Marko Semerdzhiev, won a silver medal at the largest world championship for juniors in St. Anton - Austria.
