The Clocktower

‘Vasil Dechev’ High School in Chepelare has a coquette clock tower with more than 100 years of history. In 1896, Vasil Dechev, then mayor of Chepelare, convinced the locals to build a large school with a clock tower. During his time, he came up with many of the ideas, which make Chepelare the thriving settlement of today. The register of inhabitants at that time reveals that there were only 1,706 citizens in the town! The fact that the construction of this big and beautiful building took only one year is asthonishing! There is a reason it is one of the icons of the city.
